Family Fun on a Budget This Weekend

With the winter storm on it's way, it might be a good weekend to stay close to home. Here are a few activities to do around Sioux Falls that are FREE or a good deal:

Sledding: There are 3 great places around Sioux Falls to go sledding.
1. The hill to the East of the VA Hospital near the corner of 26th and Western.
2. Tut Hill Park Sliding Hill at Tut Hill Park (I-229 and Cliff Ave.)
3. The Hill on the South side of 49th just East of the I-29 Overpass (Park on Solberg Ave off of 49th St.)

The city is also having some fun events at their parks this weekend. There is FREE ice skating, FREE supervised sledding at their Tut Hill Sliding Hill, FREE horse-drawn wagon rides, and much more. Go here for details and times. They should post cancellations on their website.

If you prefer to stay in, check out Redbox. (These are movie "vending machines" located at SF Walmarts, HyVees, and Walgreens) Use one of these codes (each code works once per credit card) when renting a movie from the machine: BREAKROOM, dvdonme, or DVDATWAG (only works at Walgreens locations). Go here to see other codes that may work. These are the 3 I have personally used.

Have you visited the Old Courthouse Museum? This last summer, my daughter and I "toured" Sioux Falls instead of going on a family vacation (my hubby isn't into being a tourist...especially in his hometown.) One of the places that we stopped was the Old Courthouse Museum downtown SF. It was so much fun for both my daughter and I. There were a lot of hands on exhibits for her to interact with and a lot of history and information for me as well. I would highly recommend it. The best part is...it's FREE. They are open Sat. 9am-5pm and Sun. 12pm-5pm. There is FREE parking to the North of the building. Go here for more information.
They are opening a dog exhibit on Sat. with a reception from 1pm-3pm. If you have kids that like dogs, or you like dogs yourself, this would be great for you. There will be FREE refreshments as well as booths with information from local dog related organizations.

Be sure to leave a comment if you can think of FREE or inexpensive activities that might interest other readers. Enjoy!
